UPDATE: Charlotte Hornets training camp progress continues to impress coaches
Day one of training camp for the Charlotte Hornets was all about developing the defensive mindset they'll need to make up for the lack of offensive firepower lost with the exit of NBA All-Star Kemba Walker who averaged a career high 25.6 points per game last season. Today that mission continued.
In keeping with the defensive minded goals of the team, they worked to solidify those concepts through veteran influence. According to head coach James Borrego, the veteran influence comes from helping younger players develop a solid routine which develops a repetitive model of success. And Borrego believes he's got one of the best examples of that in Forward Marvin Williams. "It's great for our young guys to have leaders like that who they can look to and watch ...that every day's not random - every day has a purpose to it," Borrego said.
Williams echoed those sentiments after the morning practice session on Wednesday. "I have been in that situation before ...you do lean on the veterans to be there for you," Williams said.
Today marked the last dual session practice day for the team. Training camp continues at the Smith Center on Thursday.
