Injury Update: Hubbard OUT as Xavier Legette Gets Set to Make an Impact

The Carolina Panthers put the final touches on their preparation for the Week 5 matchup against the Miami Dolphins,. A big concern all week was whether Chuba Hubbard would miraculously recover from his calf injury and make it into the lineup.

That did not happen. Hubbard was a DNP for the third straight day and on Friday was ruled out for Sunday’s game. Now the team will turn to Rico Dowdell as the go-to guy for Week 5.

Xavier Legette - sidelined for two games with a hamstring injury, is now listed with no designation and cleared for participation in Sunday’s game. Legette was a full participant in practice for the third straight day.

Other notable names listed as DNP on Friday’s report were  Tershawn Wharton (toe), cornerback Chau Smith-Wade (chest), and tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders (ankle). All of them have been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup.

Outside of Chuba Hubbard, the loss of Ja’Tavion Sanders could prove to be one of the biggest losses of the week. The tight end who has been a good option for Bryce Young this season, reeling in 11 of the 14 targets for 57, will be missed because of his size. Jimmy Horn will be added to the lineup this week. But as a small stature receiver, he may struggle to be the type of option that can make plays happen as effectively.

The Panthers host the Miami Dolphins Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC at 1:00 p.m. ET.
