Hornets muster enthusiastic start despite Malik Monk suspension, topple Knicks 107-101

When the Charlotte Hornets took the floor to face the New York Knicks on Wednesday night at5 the Spectrum Center they did so without guard Malik Monk. Monk has been suspended indefinitely for violating the NBA's anti-drug program. Hornets' head coach James Borrego addressed the media about the on-going situation ahead of tonight's game against the Knicks.

The league originally announced the suspension Wednesday but did not disclose details of Monk's violation.

The Hornets appeared to bounce back from the news. The somewhat patchwork Charlotte lineup took a 56-46 lead into the half. Terry Rozier led the Hornets first-half scoring efforts with 16 points and 2 rebounds followed by Bismack Biyombo with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Taj Gibson and Julius Randle led the Knicks with 10 points apiece.

The Knicks came within two points late in the fourth quarter. But the Hornets, led by Rozier's 26 points and three rebounds, were able to close out the Knicks for the 107-101 victory. Devonte Graham finished with 21 points and PJ Washington added 12 points and four rebounds.

Randle had the hot hand for the Knicks finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Hornets now head to Toronto to face the Raptors on Friday before returning to host the Bucks on Sunday March 1.
