Charlotte FC poised to mount aggressive inaugural campaign led by Miguel Ramirez

Charlotte, NC – From the early conversations about the identity of the new Charlotte Football Club, the notion that it would be a team that would leave it all on the field every game became a reality this week when the organization officially announce the man that will lead that team. Miguel Ramirez held his first official press conference last week and confirmed those very same sentiments about how he would develop his club.

Ramirez, a Las Palmas, Spain native, is a highly regarded coach in the upper levels of professional soccer. Charlotte is the third appointment for Ramirez who began his career in 2019 as manager of Independiente DV in Ecuador. Ramirez will launch the first season with Christian Lattanzio and Mikel Antía as assistants.

Ramirez, a fairly soft spoken person at the microphone, was eager to express his philosophy to the press along with other key members of the organization. "I know that in the beginning it will be tough ...but I feel ready," said Ramirez.

Team owner David Tepper was also on hand and shared his thoughts about how Ramirez is definitely the person to get this club off to the fast start they expect. "We don't want to do the same old thing," Tepper said.

"We're not gonna be afraid to do something new to MLS or the rest of soccer."

Charlotte FC will call Bank of America stadium home and will kick off their first campaign in 2022. The biggest goal will be for the team to convert the curious into long-time fans in an effort to fill a stadium that holds nearly 75,000 fans. During a 2020 survey by Statista, 13 percent of respondents aged 18 to 29 stated that they were avid soccer fans, while 47 percent from the same age group stated that they had no interest in the sport. Currently only about 7% of Americans cite Soccer as their favorite sport. But with the number of participants in U.S. high school soccer programs having recorded an all-time high in the 2018/19 season, with over 850 thousand boys and girls playing the sport across the country, the outlook is favorable for young fans to latch on to soccer.

Season tickets are currently on sale at the team's website charlottefootballclub.com. fans have the option to become an inaugural season ticket member for less than $10 per month.
