BREAKING NEWS: Hornets select PJ Washington, bolster youth movement (VIDEO)

With the twelfth pick in the 2019 NBA draft, the Charlotte Hornets selected PJ Washington of the University of Kentucky. In an apparent effort to plan for the future, the team added depth in the front court. The move was also a sign the team is buying into a youth movement versus building a veteran heavy roster as the go forward.

"I think he'll fit in well with our guys," Kupchak said in the post selection press conference. "I can see all the young guys hanging out together, going to the gym together ...growing with this team as time goes on."

Kupchak reminded the media, however, that the road for Washington was not an easy one but definitely gave a lesson on his level of drive and determination to get better on all levels.

"After the workouts [last year] he realized that it's a bigger jump than he thought," Kupchak said. "I think the expression that was used was 'the light came on' and I gotta go back to school and I gotta work harder than I ever worked in my life."

"I think it definitely put some fuel in my fire," Washington said during his first phone interview with Charlotte media. "Every day in practice I had that feeling in the back of my mind."

What Charlotte Gets: PF - PJ Washington, HT 6-8, WT 230, Kentucky
