NC State Surprises UVA with Tough First Half Play
CHARLOTTE--Both teams were sluggish out of the gate in the first game of the ACC Tournament quarterfinals until Virginia's Kyle Guy hit his second three-pointer to put Virginia up 11-4 early in the first half. Guy went into the half 5-7 for 14 points and 2 assists.
NC State stepped up the pressure as well as their scoring efforts which were anchored by DJ Funderbunk's 10 first half points and highlighted by a Markell Johnson's dunk that gave the Wolfpack a 19-18 lead.
The Cavaliers battled back and came within two after a Huff 3-pointer late in the period.
