Carolina Panthers exchange caring for scaring at anual Halloween Spooktacular
Charlotte, NC--The Carolina Panthers have always been a big part of the local efforts to engage youth in the region since the team's inception. This week was no exception as they continued their 17th year of the organization's Halloween Rookie Spooktacular.
Earlier this week the team's 2021 rookie class surprised children at Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital and the Jeff Gordon Children’s Center with a live-streamed show designed to bring Halloween fun to pediatric patients who may not have the opportunity to experience a traditional Halloween this year.
Efforts such as the recent Panthers' event are part of the "new-normal" as the country continues to grapple with issues surrounding the Covid-19 Pandemic. Panthers director of community relations Riley Fields was on hand to be sure the event was both entertaining and safe for everyone involved. “Although current guidelines prevented an in-person Halloween event, the Panthers rookie class was still able to directly interact and entertain children through a live-streamed show in partnership with the hospital’s Seacrest Studios," Fields said.
The player appearances were broadcast from the Bank of America Stadium via live stream. Levine Children’s Hospital participants were able to access the event from all patient rooms through the hospital’s Seacrest Studios. Players showed off Halloween costumes in a fashion contest and competed in Minute-to-Win It-style games. Patients were chosen to serve as judges for the show as well as select the winners.
The Best Costume Story award went to Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard who came as Woody from the animated film Toy Story. Other top performers were the Boo Award for Halloween Spirit won by Dayvion Nixon Dayvion Nixon (Superman) and tight end Tommy Tremble who took home the Best in Show prize. (Mr. Incredible)
Other players in attendance were Brady Christensen, Jaycee Horn, Keith Taylor, Jr. and host of others.
